Programs Line Up
Read to Achieve
One of the core programs of our organization, Read to Achieve is a comprehensive school based program that encourages youyngsters, grades K-4, to embrace the written word. During Read to Achieve Fun Days, students experience oral book reading, activities and educaitonal performances. Each school that hosts a RTA Fun Day receives a $500 donation to benefit its library. In the summer months, RTA visits recreation centers with its Fun Day program and awards three $100 awards for youngsters to purchase new school supplies.

Rap and Read
This program gives youth, grades 7-12, an opportunity to develop reading and comprehension skills and to write creatively. In tune with their imagination, students write rap songs on motivational topics, such as respect, teamwork, attitude and rules of life. Then, they can expand the song into a book or record it at a local studio. This program has recently grown to include our latest outlet for kids' expression, Think Outside the Box -- an annual publication written, designed and produced exclusively by Baltimore's youth.

Bookmobile
Our Back Court Bookmobile travels throughout Baltimore City, particularly to lower income areas, and distributes books and our learning materials to schools, recreation centers and planned parenthood offices. This program encourages new and expecting young mothers to get an early start in the learning process with their children. Books and videos are sponsored by Washington Wizards/Mystics.

Entrepreneurship
Our entrepreneurship program teaches youth, grades 6-12, essential work and money management skills. One of our most popular projects in this program is the logo/marketing plan, where youth design and produce marketable products for local smal businesses. Another popular project is Art In Hand, where youth develop graphic art from computer and photographic material. Students can either work on a single project or participatei n the Entrepreneurship program as a part-time summer job.

Clean Sweep Days
Neighborhood kids work with Baltimore City Recreation and parks to clean up trash and debris in inner city parks and streets and to plant new gardens. Organized several times a year, Clean Sweep Days help bring Baltimore to life.

Summer Camp Scholarships
Honor roll students are eligible to apply for this annual scholarhsip to attend the summer camp of their choice for FREE. Five awards (approximately $250 each) are granted in June at the end of the academic year.
